My journey into healing began after reading Mark 16:17–18, where Jesus said, 
And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.
 
I marveled as I read for the first time in the Four Gospels about Jesus healing the sick, but then something happened when I came to this verse, which changed everything for me. Up until this moment, I would have thought that any participation in healing would have been out of reach, something inaccessible for someone like me, but now it was as if Jesus were extending a personal invitation to me to begin praying for the sick. Jesus wasn’t just giving me permission to do it, but it seemed as though He was expecting me to do it.
 
All of this caused me to go back to the Scriptures again, studying the healing ministry of Jesus through new eyes. Now, I had an experience, and that changed everything. I read and re-read these stories, looking for more clues as to how to effectively pray for the sick.
 
I felt like I had something to give away, something to offer people in need. I can’t tell you how fulfilling that idea was. From that time on, I prayed for everything that moved. I “practiced” every chance I could. I even prayed for my old Ford Pinto when it wouldn’t start, believing that it really didn’t matter if I prayed to heal a headache or restore a head gasket.
 
Once I started down this road, there has been no journey like it. I want believers to join me, bringing healing to those in need. I have seen many remarkable healings since then, which have impacted people’s lives, but none as much as my own, for which I will always be grateful.
 
It is my hope that this Study Guide will inspire you to build your own faith and practices upon the example Jesus left for us. He is the Cornerstone, the pattern, from which all our measurements should be taken for our lives and ministry. While I am grateful for the men of God who have acted like a cloud of witness in my life, showing me that it can be done, I want to have eyes for no one but Jesus.
