God has the biggest toolbox you could ever imagine. It has been opened for us to use to get the gospel out. The devil also uses spiritual power and we will need all that God has available in order to undo and outdo the works of darkness.
Besides having signs and wonders and different kinds of miracles being made available to us, there are also gifts of the Spirit:
God also bearing witness both with signs and wonders, diver miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to His own will… (Hebrews 2:4)
No matter what God has made available, we all have blocks to the power of God. This study will help identify these blocks and give you a Biblical incentive to get past them.
The apostle Paul told us to pursue the best gifts. This is not something we are to do on a “weekend retreat”, but need to make it part of our lifestyle. My own search has lasted decades. Once I started to go after them, I found out that:
- They are not given lightly.
- They are free, there is a high cost.
- They are distributed to each one individually as He wills. (1 Corinthians 12:11)
- There are non-miraculous gifts that we should start with.
- There is an abundance of grace available to us.
- Getting them always hinges on our desire to have them.
- We need to become hot, hot for the gifts if we are ever to come into them.
- So far, He has never told me that I am being too greedy or that I have been given enough.
- We have differing gifts, according to the grace that is given to each of us
- They are worth the search.
My own desire becomes stirred up whenever I ask myself the following questions:
Will I settle for a watered-down version of the Holy Spirit, or do I expect Him to be the same Holy Ghost with power that I see in the Bible?
Do I rewrite my definition of power because I am not able to obtain it, or do I push beyond my comfort zone and limited understanding in order to experience more of what the people in the Bible experienced?
Will I feign being spirit-filled, when He is not flowing in an obvious way?
Has God been holding back the power of the Holy Spirit, or have I?
Let's explore these questions and others that come up as we study this important subject together. It is time to lay a fresh Biblical foundation under our faith so we can step out and experience more of what God has for us.
