GOD’S PRIORITIES

A 10-Day Devotional That Helps Us Align Our Priorities With His

Becoming a disciple will require that we change our priorities. What we do with our time reveals what our priorities are, and our priorities reveal what we really love.

While the word priority is not often found in the Scriptures, it is hidden in the word first.

Here is the Greek definition of the word first taken from the Strong’s Concordance:

FIRST (GK. 4412 proton from GK. 4413); firstly (in time, place, order, or importance): before, at the beginning, chiefly, (at, at the) first (of all).

As you can see from this definition, what we do with our time and what we do in order of importance, reveals what our priorities are. What determines this list is a tell. How we spend our time, money, and strength shows what is important to us. Again, what we prioritize our lives around reveals where our heart is.

We can see the word proton used in the following verse:

“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33)

If we link this verse with the one in Luke 17:21, where Jesus said the Kingdom of God is within us, we soon realized that allowing Him to rule and reign within us, is how we develop our spiritual lives. This is not something we decide to do once, but again and again, decision by decision, conflict by conflict, allowing Him to be the One who decides what we will do with our time, strength, and resources.
